BestStart Cornwall St tamariki have enjoyed learning about sustainability. The tamariki have done some planting to learn about soil and what they can do to be sustainable as well as what plants they can eat and what time of the year their plants grow in.

The teachers and tamariki have also started to learn about compost, from what can be put in it, to how it can help the plants to grow. This compost learning is also allowing the children to get their hands dirty as they experience planting for themselves.

The tamariki are also able to put fruit and vegetables scraps into the compost. Our learning environment follow the interests of the tamariki, where outside learning and activities help the children to learn about their bodies and what goes in to them to keep them healthy.

Sustainable learning also allows the children to grow in their understating of not only compost and planting but also their own bodies. This learning is also reinforcing the kawa (protocols) that we have at Best Start Cornwall Street as the children develop their gentle hands when looking after their friends and they are able to take part in caring for their environment.
