Parent Information Evening at BestStart Vivian

At BestStart Vivian Street we know the power of knowledge and celebrate our tamariki's learning journeys and the input we have to creating lifelong learners. In order to equip our tamariki, we also believe in empowering our whanau, parents and communities, hereby acknowledging and valuing the partnership and relationships we build with our families.

We were fortunate to have Donna Hounslow-Caracciolo the advisor for Deaf Children from Ministry of Education, and Belinda Miller the coordinator for B4SC offer up their time to come and join us on Wednesday 15th May to share their valued expertise with us.

Donna shared how a runny nose can affect hearing, and how to go about preventing ear infections. She talked about and demonstrated the importance of working alongside tamariki to teach them how to blow their nose, something we take for granted, and expect children to be able to do.

Belinda explained the importance of having B4SC checks booked as soon as their tamaiti turn four, it is not compulsory, but is a free service that can be accessed once children turn four. It gives parents and other services the opportunity to identify areas of development that tamariki might need help with, and give them a whole year to put things in place before they start school.

By identifying a need, and bringing professionals from our wider community, to our whanau, into our centre, we equip ourselves with more knowledge to continue "Bringing our A game to ignite a passion for teaching and learning".
