Let's All Go Camping!
Shall we head North, South, East, or West? Mako tamariki have been exploring and learning about camping over the summer. We set up our tent in the classroom and made a campfire for a pretend sausage sizzle. We have been having afternoon kai at the campsite almost every day, but today was a very special day! We packed our new pink backpack with our new compass, binoculars, first aid kit, drink bottle, potae on our head, walking shoes on our feet and went on a SCAVENGER HUNT! We pretended to go on a hiking trail and looked for items on the clipboard.
We made sure someone knew where we were going and when we would be back in case we got lost. We found a lot of things on our hike in the wilderness, such as a spider, butterfly, ladybug, lizard and more! We used our compass to make sure we were heading in the right direction. We also extended our hiking to the pēpi room and said hi to the babies and kaiako. At last, we returned safely back to our campsite! Tino pai rawa atu, tamariki ma! Imaginative play extends children's literacy learning as they discover different ways to be creative and expressive and learn strategies for active exploration, thinking, and reasoning.
