Lets explore colours!
Letting children explore is especially fun when teaching about the primary colours and colour mixing.
The following questions were asked before we got started: if they have ever tried to mix colours of paint. What happens? How can new colours be made? Let them be creative and get the brain to think.
We explored mixing colours together and what happened while mixing them?
Children explore colours by identifying the primary colours (red, blue and yellow) and begin basic mixing techniques to create secondary colours (orange, green, purple).
Firstly we identify the 3 colours we would like to mix, we also call these 3 colours our primary colors.
As the teacher I then asked the children, what colours do you think we will create when mixing two colours together
We mixed the colours together and something new was created. A secondary colour.
The children were able to differentiate between the colours red, blue, and yellow, explored which colours can be mixed together to form new colours and secondary colours.
Plus, by letting them explore, experience, and experiment, they are more able to remember how to make the secondary colours themselves.
