One of the senior tamariki was spending her time making imaginary pies for her parents in the family corner when we had a thought… why don’t we just make real pies? This is when another senior child arrived with a box full of freshly picked pears from her pear tree, how convenient!

When asked what sort of pies we should make, the children came at us with hundreds of amazing ideas of what could potentially go into our pies, but we came to an easy decision of pear and raspberry pie. The children took turns using their concentration and patience to cut the pears into smaller pieces and prepare the fruit. The children then carefully moulded the pastry to fit into the muffin tin, making sure none of the tin was showing. Some of the children knew how to use this pastry and make pies better than the teachers! They went away to cook, and we could smell the beautiful smells coming from the kitchen. The children had one each for afternoon tea and then were able to take one home to share with their families. Even the teachers got to have a taste, how delicious!
