We love making music at Montessori Johnsonville. Inside one of our classrooms we have some wood claves so the children can learn to play a scale - playing one note at a time from the lowest to highest and back again. In our other classroom we have a keyboard for children to follow colour coded songs. We also have a teacher that brings in her violin, flute, ukelele or guitar sometimes too.

Over the summer months we take our treasure box of musical instruments outside to play. Sometimes the children will sit together and make beautiful music, sometimes we use it as a settling activity for the new children have started with us. The children love to sit on a mat in the sun and recreate the songs we sing at Montessori.

This week we have had some new children start and they have enjoyed watching some of our older children explore the instruments. One of the children had asked a teacher to come and sit with them and show them how the instruments worked. Suzette sang some songs with the children and then asked them to sing some of their favourites too.

A little while later another teacher joined them and together they sang songs from different languages too - some in Hindi, some in Singhala, some in Te Reo. We love making music together.
