As part of our current learning journey of the life cycle of chicken, respect and responsibility, we had the Living Egg Chick Hatch Programme delivered at the centre for 10 days. In total 10 eggs got delivered in the incubator. On the second day our children were excited to see one of the egg cracking as the first chick got hatched. Brooder had been set to record the growth and development of the newly hatched chick.

Our tamariki have benefited from this learning to nurture and take care of the chicks through careful and respectful interaction. As they take care of a living animal they learn to be gentle and kind, listen and respond to others, take turns and learn how to care and feed. Our wider whanau came  in to spend time with their children in the centre observing the eggs and chicks throughout the journey. By the end of day five, eight chicks had been hatched.

To farewell the chicks we had a tea party.
