Our children are learning about recycling and reusing, as part of caring for our world.

Here they are building and constructing using a range of open-ended materials that we use every day. Using these materials can trigger children’s imagination and help to develop their creativity. Often, they start with nothing in mind initially, which soon turns into great projects. This can be building rockets to take them into space or amazing buildings in which they would like to live.

During this play they use their problem-solving skills, such as how to attach one piece to another, which is not always an easy thing to do.

Teachers are nearby to offer support or make suggestions. We see children over coming these obstacles and get great satisfaction with their work.

Junk play is so valuable for our tamariki to test their ideas and theories and give them a sense of achievement and delight.
