As part of our Sustainability topic, today we planted our Little Garden seeds. There were lots of keen helpers, and there were a lot of seeds to be planted. Each pot contained a (soil) pellet, seeds and a wee pot. Each pot had the name of the seeds with it, so we knew what we were planting. We had to soak the pellets in water first to expand it and make it soft so we could use it. When that was done, we transferred the soil into our small pot, put the seeds either on top (if the seeds were in paper), or made small holes (if the seeds were big, like squash) and then put the last bit of soil over the top. The children were encouraged to do most of the work themselves and were supported when they had a bit of trouble. The children were discussing what they were doing and comparing their seeds to their friends seeds.
