Little sculptors.
The children have been busy exploring clay. They have been rolling, squeezing and using resources with the clay to make their creations.
We have seen amazing representations of the sun, flowers, snails and spiders. Teachers sit with them as they discuss the characteristics of clay. They describe the temperature and texture as cold, hard, soft and slimy. Playing with clay can help children develop important skills and competencies as they experiment with it. They demonstrate great concentration, spending long periods engaging with the medium, using their language skills as they describe their creations.
Clay gives children the opportunity to be creative and learn about texture, shape and have lots of fun. It stimulates children's curiosity, as well as to foster their imagination. It is calming and soothing for children as they explore the unique qualities clay.
