Love the Earth
"If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it"
-David Sobel.
The Kaupapa in Tōtara is all encompassing of ecologically creative ideas, taking action and responsibility and working with the environment. We make links to the Maori Atua, which have a part to play in the process of growing a plant - Te Ra, for warmth and light, Ranganui for rain's moisture, and Papatuanuku for an earthly nutritious foundation. We acknowledged they work together for the wellbeing of every plant's growth. Through gardening, we see all our Kelvin Grove values in action – respect for our environment, expertise around gardening, teamwork in all that we do and empathy and kindness as we include each other in the process and often talk about caring for the "baby plants".
