Mahi tahi at BestStart Tristram Avenue
Due to a few tamariki transitioning from Kakariki Ruma into the Kowhai Ruma, as well as the new friends that joined our kindy whanau this month, we have been practicing Tuakana-Teina relationships by pairing them up with the older tamariki who can support and guide them in this new chapter of their learning journey, helping them settle into the new space and follow daily rituals and routines.
Thus came about the new focus of Mahi tahi (working together) and Kotahitanga (unity), which links to our centre vision of "Playing together, learning together, growing together". Tamariki have been engaged in various learning experiences both indoors and outdoors, ranging from fishing games that promote manaakitanga (respect), problem-solving, turn-taking, and sharing.
Hui times such as Whakatau is an important part of our daily rituals. We all gather around the whariki for a common purpose while greeting each other in different languages. We then say Karakia to bless the day ahead, followed by waiata and a story. Tamariki gain control of their bodies through balancing exercises and yoga to reset their tinana, promote mindfulness, and overall sense of well-being. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures next month.
