We did such a good job of nurturing the seedlings we got from Horowhenua Council last year we were asked to do it again!

We value teaching children just how important it is to preserve and protect our beach and forest for future generations.  We collect rubbish, recycle and grow vegetables but we wanted to be part of something bigger that contributed to the community efforts.

Last year I reached out to Craig from the Council and told him about our vision here at BestStart Foxton Beach, to grow and nurture the future Kaitiaki (guardians) of the land. Craig brought in some seedlings such as totara, karaka and kowhai for us to care for and nurture. These grew with us until they were big and strong enough to be transfered to a reserve, how exciting is that.

We now have some brand new ones to love and care for until they're big enough to be planted. This is such good learning for our children, they can see the progress they make and learn how to care for real  seedlings and the benefits they have on our huge range of local birds here. Once they are planted we can go for excursions to see them and feel the pride of our efforts.
