We often notice children engaged in pretend cooking and baking in the family play area, with play dough and sand. To respond to this interest and to make the children's experiences more meaningful, we do curriculum baking with the children. We also involve children in cooking and preparing food during centre celebrations.

This month children were provided with wonderful opportunities to part take in Cheese Puffs baking. Children are using their skills like grating cheese with the grater, they are further developing their fine motor skills, whilst whisking and mixing eggs and flour. Literacy skills are developed as they follow the recipe, listen to the kaiako give instructions, counting and measuring ingredients and gaps in the baking tins, fostering numeracy skills. Above all they are having fun and enjoy eating what they have made. great social skills of turn taking and developing patience and sharing responsibility is being learnt.
