The tamariki (children) here at BestStart Judea have been showing an interest in music and movement. To support this, kaiako (teacher) Tracey has been making musical instruments with them.

To begin with we had some cylinder-shaped tubes which we hammered small nails into, this process itself involved a lot of concentration and focus. Everyone worked really hard to hit their nails in, some of the older tamariki supported the younger ones by holding the tubes for them.

Once the nails were all in, we painted each tube and then filled them to create the sound in them. Tamariki explored the sound by flipping the tube one way and then the next, listening carefully to the beautiful music they had created. Tino pai to mahi tamariki ma (great work children).
