Manuia le vaiaso o le gagana Samoa--Happy Samoan language week!

1

At BestStart Hei Hei, we acknowledge all the taonga/ treasures, (knowledge, language, culture, whakapapa) that have been passed down through generations to our precious tamariki (Taonga Tuku Iho). We aim to create an environment that fosters a sense of belonging by valuing every culture and where all of our tamariki's values, languages and traditions are celebrated. In the last week of May, our tamariki loved celebrating the Samoan language week. The nursery tamariki alongside their kaiako loved learning and singing the "savalivali" song. We also loved colouring the "Siapo mamanu" which are freestyle Samoan patterns. During this occasion, out tamariki loved exercising their creativity and expression by trying on the flower headdress and getting their pictures taken wearing that. Our tamariki loved getting a glimpse of the Samoan cuisine by trying the famous Suafa'i- a sago and coconut cream pudding which was shared by one of our lovely, kind and generous parents. Fa'afetai tele lava (Thank you so much!)! At this point we would like to give a big thanks to our lovely families who shared their cultural oa (cultural treasures) in the form of songs, lullabies and the food. ‘Mitamita i lau gagana, maua’a lou fa’asinomaga’ ‘Be proud of your language and grounded in your identity’.
