In July, we celebrated Matariki, the Maori New Year that comes when the cluster of Matariki stars rise. We celebrated with a night to search for the stars with all our whanau and children, and to share the love and food. Maori is something that is embedded into the culture and individuality of New Zealand, and the kaiako and tamariki are ever so curious. We are always on a journey to learn more about every child's culture and identity but to also incorporate the culture of New Zealand to enrich their experiences.

We have always been learning new words and songs to enrich our experiences in Maori. In preparation for Matariki, we also learnt about the Matariki stars, and the many myths and legends that surround it. The kaiako and tamariki also take great joy in learning about the underlying values and things we do to respect our peers, resources and environment. We feel that this was the opportunity for us to show our appreciation and how thankful we are of the community's support and help each and every day. What better way to show that than a lovely performance with the children with drinks, laughter and food? Nga mihi o te tau hou (Happy New Year)"
