July was a fun month in our Tongarerewa baby room. Whanau joined us for our Matariki Soup Evening and it was lovely to talk and connect with our whanau and for them to see us in a different aspect of their tamariki learning.

We also set up a library for our families to borrow from and have lots of great titles on useful topics such as baby massage, baby sign language, play ideas and much more.

We say babies need to have tummy time, but why? It is important for many reasons. It helps brain development, muscle strength and encourages mobility, in other words it helps them to start developing the muscle groups for crawling, sitting, and moving. Tummy time does not have to be on the floor though, why not have them lay on your tummy as you lay on your back on the floor, it is just as effective and helps with bonding. It allows you to chat, make eye contact with your baby and to just be present in their world.
