Matariki at Allenton
What a beautiful celebration we had for Matariki today within our centre.
The children have been enjoying learning about the meaning of Matariki, especially around the seven sisters who made their kites and went to fly them. Unfortunately, their kites got lost and these turned into the seven stars of Matariki. The children have been fascinated by this and want to read the book all the time to see the kites turn into stars.
Today we had a shared lunch with our families, with families bringing a shared plate. The children loved having their parents join us. We then moved into kite making where we all go to make our own Matariki kites to fly.
