Matariki is a time for reflection, to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and plan for the future.

At Beststart Riverbend, we celebrated alongside our whānau with an evening full of fun and discovery.

We held a disco and shared our centre waiata with parents, which we have been learning in preparation for our cultural festival later in the year.

There was shared kai and the opportunity for conversation to flow as we shared aspirations and built stronger relationships with one another.

As tamariki and whānau moved through the centre engaging in art, weaving and other Matariki activities, whānau were invited to use our photo booth to capture family portraits that will be displayed in the classrooms for tamariki to revisit and share with peers.

Overall, our Matariki evening supported our tamariki to develop a stronger sense of belonging and cultural connection with kaiako and peers.  We look forward to our next Matariki celebration in 2027.
