Matariki at Community Kindy Johnstones Road
The Teina room have been learning about Matariki. We began our journey by learning all about the Matariki stars and how they bring about change and new year. Our explorers have been excited to discover and inquire more into this celebration through poi, harvesting, art and storytelling. Participating in this event has promoted a strong sense of bicultural identity and togetherness as they have shared these experiences with one another.
Our explorers continue to be invested in our sensory project- Cornflour. We have recently added conditioner to challenge their ideas and investigation. It has been interesting to observe and listen to the children’s ideas; as they engage in multisensory learning. Through taste, touch, sight, and sound the children have been able to actively explore and form a better understanding of new textures, sensations and their ability to be manipulated. Their excitement, surprise and curiosity through these experiences has also promoted communication, collaboration and creativity as they are empowered to share with one another.
