Matariki, the Māori New Year, means 'tiny eyes' or 'eyes of god' and is celebrated in June when a small group of stars called Pleiades rises above the horizon, bringing the old year to a close and starting a new year.

At BestStart Montessori Mosgiel we held our annual Matariki celebration!

We had a delicious shared family dinner followed by our favourite Matariki story and some waiata.

Then when it was dark we went outside with our torches to see if we could see the Matariki stars and to have a treasure hunt! What a wonderful event to be able to celebrate all together!
