Matariki Celebration in Rimu Room
This week was a special week of celebrating our Māori new year. Matariki is the Māori name for the Pleiades star cluster, and it rises during the end of June and early July and marks the beginning of Māori new year. The whānau gather at night and they use this period to celebrate harvests and make offerings for a bountiful future.
Our tamarind in nursery celebrated by doing some “firework painting” activity, playing with “gold glittery play dough”, baking “star-shaped cookies”, singing traditional Matariki songs during the mat time and helping kayaks making yummy soup by cutting the vegetables! It was awesome to see our friends in nursery contributing themselves and participating in activities in celebrating Matariki week and they certainly had a so much fun and had a blast! Thank you, our friends, and whānau for making this week super special, ka pai to mahi :)
