Matariki Celebrations at BestStart Russell Street

1

July brings celebrating Matariki as a centre team, and with our centre whānau and children. These events are about celebrating the Māori new year, remembrance of loved ones past, peace and joy. We had a lot of fun in the weeks coming up to Matariki celebration weekend, with creating artwork inspired by the event, spending time learning more about what Matariki means with our tamariki, connecting back to the land through learning experiences, and connecting with our wider communities as we came together in the spirit of the Māori new year and Matariki celebrations. We love to learn more about the cultures within our centre families, and within our local communities. Taking part in these conversations and events gives us opportunity to deepen our cultural knowledge , and provide our children with engaging and culturally inclusive learning environments. We want to thank all those from within our communities, and our centre whānau, who took time to share important parts of what what makes Matariki with us, and to all those who contributed to centre family celebrations, for joining in and making these events amazing and a huge success in continuing to build our relationships for better learning outcomes for our children.
