Matariki family bonding time!
Matariki is a special time of year where we feed our families, share some of the learning that has been happening over the past year and plan for the year to come.
This year the children were super excited to help peel the vegetables of our hangi. The stories, the music and the laughter, were shared between families and friends. Families helped to put down the hangi and stayed and were with the children as we waited for it to be cooked.
We made pumpkin soup to share as well. Daniel enjoyed scooping the cooled soup into containers for families to take home. He counted how many scoops went into each container.
Jane was busy in the playroom practising the skills she would need when she goes to school. Cutting out each piece of cultural dress for her to attach to her paper doll strengthens her hand muscles so that they will be strong for when she starts writing.
Khalayis and his family shared how much they enjoyed the hangi as well as their time at BestStart Brooklyn after recently joining us.
