The show was aimed at an age group of 5 – 9 years old and I was impressed at our tamariki’s ability to sit and focus for the 30min show.  They were very interested in the performance.

We hopped on a bus and went into town.  The bus ride provided lots of conversation and the tamariki were very excited as they pointed out familiar places along the way.

We got to the show and waited in the foyer.  We met a group of children from another centre.   After a short wait we went in and sat down on some seats.  After another short wait the lights went out and it got very dark!  The show started and the puppets were glowing!  Wow!   How brave to sit in the dark.  The puppets were really fun and entertaining and it was amazing to see them glowing!  We even found out that our light up shoes look amazing in there too!

After the show we walked out together and got back on the bus to return back to ABC Hillcrest.  It was an amazing experience for us all.

The importance of having excursions like this is that it gives children opportunities to have experiences outside of their comfort zone.  It gives us, as teachers, an opportunity to show children how to conduct themselves in public spaces, how to be respectful to strangers and how to keep themselves and each other safe.  The bus ride was a great way to share familiar and common spaces.  This was a super special excursion as it was also very entertaining!
