Matariki in Tahi

Matariki in Tahi

As part of our Matariki celebrations, the children brought vegetables in from home to prepare and make a vegetable soup for lunch.

The children in Tahi had a great time getting everything prepared and ready for the kitchen. Some helped to scoop the seeds out of the pumpkin, while some helped to peel the other vegetables. They also enjoyed watching the teachers chop these up. Once everything was ready, the children helped to put it all in a dish, ready to go to the kitchen.

The best part about this experience was at lunch. Everyone was able to taste the finished product and enjoy all the teamwork that went into preparing the soup.

Through this experience, the children could share their knowledge and skills in food preparation by helping the teachers to get the vegetables ready to be turned into soup. They could work alongside other children and teachers and work towards a shared goal.

They took turns, shared and communicated verbally and non-verbally. This supports them in learning and extending their social competency skills which will help them to develop and extend relationships with others.
