Matariki was celebrated last month in true BestStart Raumati style. Whanau, tamariki, friends and extended family joined our kaiako for an amazing fun filled evening. Kaiako had planned and prepared a range of creative and craft activities that whanau and tamariki could get involved in together – these all related to one of the nine Matariki stars. We had wishing jars with tea light candles, autumn leaves set in wax paper, driftwood and shell art sculptures, feather kete decorating, painted stones, light up fluorescent poi and Matariki pictures to colour. Kylee, our Cook put together a sumptuous array of kai for everyone to enjoy and whanau contributed with some yummy treats as well.

As is tradition here, our evening concluded with fire poi – some of our kaiako and whanau gave a demonstration and then some lucky tamariki got to have a go as well……..what a magical experience.
