Matariki with Raureka
June saw our wonderful Matariki celebration with whanau. In preparation for this celebration, tamariki and kaiako created displays of stars, a korowai, lanterns and also learnt about what Matariki, Maori New Year, means.
We read stories and legends about the sisters and how the star constellation forms on the horizon.
Our whanau event was a wonderful opportunity for our kaiako, whanau and tamariki to reconnect after COVID19 restrictions. We enjoyed delicious kai (soup, boil-up, curry and dessert), korero, mahi toi and a kanikani to celebrate to coming of Matariki.
Ngā mihi o Matariki, te tau hou Māori.
