Meet Nala
At BestStart Brooklyn we have a large fish tank that greets you when you walk in the door. 5 beautiful gold fish swim around their tank providing a calming distraction for all. In another quiet corner has the home of ‘Hiccup’ and ‘Toothless.’ They are two male axolotls. The children have learnt that in order for them to come out of their homes, they need to wait quietly so not to frighten them. Our newest member for team Brooklyn, is ‘Nala’ a very tame pure black female guinea pig. She was looking for a home and her previous family thought that BestStart Brooklyn would be a perfect forever home. Nala has taught our children to about how to care for others. Every few days her cage and runway are cleaned and the children all love to watch and help. Nala looks forward to the children taking her for walks outside in the sun, or pushing her in the stroller or giving her cuddles. Some of her friends bring her in extra vegetables from their gardens, such as lettuce that has gone to seed. Nala loves her apples, carrots, and especially capsicums. BestStart Brooklyn tries to provide opportunities that children may not have at home. Caring for animals at Brooklyn is a wonderful experience that everyone can enjoy.
