Meet our latest additions to our whānau
Meet the newest addition to our centre whānau, our three beautiful chickens! At BestStart Kamo Central we have been on a Kaitiakitanga journey. A big part of this has been teaching the tamariki how to show respect for each other and our environment. The tamariki have been part of helping renovate our gardens, and plant, care for, and harvest anything we grow. The next step on our journey was getting chicken, this was unplanned and seemed like fate.
Our local pet shop just happened to have three baby chicks left and we couldn't resist. The tamariki were so excited and gained such a sense of responsibility as they played a huge part in caring for the chickens and making sure they have everything they need. Our chickens were going to need a new home, so we repurposed our whare and moved it closer to the garden so our chickens could have enough space. It has been amazing to watch how much our tamariki have grown their, caring, compassion, and independence since the arrival of our chickens. We have watched them grow over the last few months, they are now fully grown and we are waiting patiently for the day they start to lay eggs.
