Meet the Kaiako: BestStart Omahu Road - Nest

Kelsey
Hi there, my name is Kelsey. I am excited to be part of the team here at BestStart Omahu. I have been working in the Early Childhood Education sector in both home-based childcare and in-centre for nine years now. I have always wanted to work in the Early Childhood sector from well before I can remember. After having my own children, I decided it was time to fulfil my dreams and show my own children to follow their dreams. I am an under two's kaiako as I have a passion in helping them meet their milestones and watching them develop into young and capable individuals.

I have four children - two boys and two girls. We love being outdoors and spending time at the beach. Alongside my passion of working with children, I have the love to teach classes at the gym, I am a qualified Mills body pump instructor.

Grace
Kia ora, my name is Grace.

I am one of the nursery teachers here at BestStart Omahu. I love working with our infant age group and I enjoy being a part of the most special milestones and moments. I have been an Early Childhood Teacher for three and a half years now.

I am originally from Wairoa where I grew up on a sheep and beef farm. I now live in Kereru with my husband and son. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and horses, I enjoy competing on the show jumping circuit competitively with them.

I am very excited to get to know you and your whānau and look forward to supporting the nursery children's development and learning journey.

Nikki
Kia ora whānau, my name is Nikki and I am a kaiako in the Nest at BestStart Omahu. I am a qualified and registered Early Childhood Teacher and have worked in Early Childhood Education for 13 years. I began my teaching career in the Waikato and moved to the Hawkes Bay in 2015. Prior to becoming an Early Childhood Teacher I worked in admin and marketing, I had never considered early childhood teaching as a career option (even though I was told it was what I should be doing). It wasn't until I met an Early Childhood Teacher/Manager, who had left the industry and then returned back to it. They explained to me what ECE was and sparked the interest for me. They supported me to apply for a scholarship through what was then ABC (now BestStart) and my career as an Early Childhood Kaiako was born. My focus age group has always been infants and toddlers, although I have worked in over two's as well. I believe infants and toddlers have so much to offer us all and they soak up all the learning on offer to them, they love to engage in learning and it is from this joy, that fuels my joy in teaching.
