Meet the Kaiako: BestStart Omahu Road - Pohutakawa

Deborah
Tena koutou katoa o BestStart Omahu whānau,
Ko Deborah toku ingoa.

I am a proud mama to 5, whangai mama to 6, nana to 8, and Aunty/Nan to many.

I am blessed to have such close-knit whānau that keep me busy. We are a strong hockey whānau through playing, coaching, and officiating. Presently I am in HB masters over 50's, I have also been selected to participate in the NZ tournament team North vs. South.

Through following my tamariki through their education, I have always been drawn back to Early Childhood Education for over 27 years. In 2016 I finally achieved my degree in ECE. I enjoy supporting our tamariki to learn through exploration of the many different activities I make available and sharing this with whānau.

Ngā mihi, Deborah.

Kim
Kia ora, my name is Kimerley, my friends and family call me Kim.

I have been working in Early Childcare since 2016. I have loved working with tamariki so much that I decided to study the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) in September 2017. I chose to study through correspondence at Te Rito Maioha, and went on to graduate at the beginning of January 2021.

I am so delighted to be a part of the team here at BestStart Omahu. I was born and raised here in Hawkes Bay, and I grew up alongside two older brothers. Whānau and friends are significant in my life. I love spending time travelling, going to concerts, and spending time with my 12 year old son.

Building reciprocal relationships with tamariki and whānau through aroha and respect is at the heart of my philosophy. I believe that tamariki are competent and confident learners, developing at their own pace, and kaiako need to support and nurture their mana at every stage of their learning and development.

Brooke
Hi there, my name is Brooke, I was born and raised in Matamata but have called Hawkes Bay home since 2020.

I was asked at 12 years old what I wanted to be when I was older - without a hesitation I said an Early Childhood Teacher. Throughout school I completed gateway programmes in Early Childhood and from then on that's what I wanted to do.

I completed an Early Childhood course and got my National Certificate. I thought to myself, this is my first dream career and can't see myself working elsewhere. I have always had a passion for working alongside tamariki, watching them grow and develop each and every day.
