Meet the Kaiako: BestStart Omahu Road - Rimu

Amanda
Kia ora e te whānau, ko Amanda toku ingoa. I am the proud Head Teacher of our Rimu Room here at BestStart Omahu. I am a fully qualified and registered kaiako with over ten years experience in varying early education approaches across all ages (0-5 years), beginning my journey with a nannying qualification. Currently, I am enjoying working within our mixed aged setting, ages 2-5 years.

My teaching philosophy and key values are respect, whanaungatanga, and manaakitanga with aroha at the heart of everything I do. My mission daily is to engage a warm, nurturing, and supportive environment where tamariki and their whānau are cherished and empowered with individuality celebrated. Within my journey, I have discovered a prominent passion for supporting our ākonga in developing their social and emotional competencies. I believe when ākonga are secure in their mind, body, and spirit, they are enabled to meaningfully engage, developing resilience, while challenging themselves in a holistic manner.

"He taonga te mokopuna, kia whāngaia, kia tpiu, kia rea.
A child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, to flourish."
- Te Whariki (MOE, 2017, p. 2)

I look forward to being a part of you and your child's learning journey.
Ngā mihi, Amanda.

Edelweiss
Hi there, my name is Edelweiss and I am from South Africa, but now I am happy to say that New Zealand is my home.

For 11 years I taught 7-8 year olds, using that experience, I now enjoy working in Early Childhood Education centres. It amazes me to see how 2-5 year olds can develop and grown to unique individuals.

Learning through play is especially important to me. I believe through play, children develop body awareness and become mindful of their environment. They also develop socially and being social with peers and teachers they are learning how to be part of a community.

I love being part of a team that help children find their place in their community and world.

Chelsea
My name is Chelsea, I have lived in Hawkes Bay most of my life. I work in ECE with a passion to unlock a child's dream to learn. As a teacher I strongly believe in nurturing and nourishing all children is at the forefront of what we do, allowing children to fulfil their full potential to develop and become their best selves. I also want to share my own love of nature with out children in hopes I pass this passion on, allowing them to understand where their food comes from and the importance of looking after mother nature.
