Meet the Team at BestStart Halswell Road
Kia Whanau, In our preschool room we currently have two permeant Kaiako, Sam and BK and we are lucky to have our amazing reliever Lisa T with us every day.
My name is Sam Coburn, I am the assistant manager and the team leader here in the preschool room at Best Start Halswell Road. I have been teaching for 12 years and think I have the best job in the world! I continue preschool teaching because every day is different and full of magical learning moments. Children teach us so much about the wonders of the world and constantly amaze me in their capabilities. You can’t help but smile when working with children, I love the funny things they say and the excitement of their learning discoveries. I have worked in many centres over the years and through this have shaped my own ideas about what quality early childhood education looks like. It is important for me everyone feels welcomed and a sense of belonging when they step into my centre. When I am not at work, I keep things pretty quiet, I love to spend time with my animals, I have 2 horses and a beautiful dog, I like to listen to music and am teaching myself guitar.
My name is Baljit Kaur (BK) and I have been teaching Early childhood in New Zealand for the past year. Before this, I was a mathematics teacher in my home country of India, teaching is my passion from childhood. Being the oldest child in my family, I grew up with my younger siblings and cousins and I always wanted to help them during their studies. When I moved to New Zealand, I tried many jobs outside teaching and always felt that something was missing in my life. Teaching is my passion. After some consideration I choose Early Childhood to learn more about children, their interests, their learning difficulties and help them to grow. I love to be around children and see them growing at their own time and pace as children are unique and special in their own way. I love my job as a teacher where every single day comes with new experience and children brighten up my day with their smiles. During my studies I worked as a reliver so I could get a feel for many different centres. I knew from the moment I visited Best Start Halswell Road it was the centre for me.
