Meet the Teina Team!
Welcome to our Teina whānau In this ruma we have Sashi and Kiriarangi.
Kia Ora My name is Sashi and I have been in the teaching profession since 1997. I am a qualified and registered kaiako and have almost 15 years of experience working with young learners. I joined BestStart Somerset early in 2023 and love my job and my BestStart Whānau. I believe that every child is unique and they learn and develop at their own pace and ability, and it is important to understand their cues and make their learning and exploration meaningful. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, reading, cooking and travelling and watching sports. Rugby Sevens is my favourite sport as it teaches us that lots can be achieved in a short span of time, if we are committed.
Kia Ora My name is Kiriarangi and I am a primary trained teacher who studied in the Waikato but was raised in the Far North. I've had the extreme privilege of growing up at a beach surrounded by nature, animals and Whānau. Furthermore, my environment allowed me to affirm my own identity and cultural understanding. As such I believe in building strong relationships and incorporating children's interests and culture into my everyday teaching. Acknowledging the children's personal identities and ways of learning provides an environment where they feel supported and encouraged to express themselves and their ideas. An inclusive environment provides the opportunities for children to be free to move, explore, play, create, participate and to learn at their own pace.
