We started our Christmas celebrations by participating in a Christmas decorating competition between all our BestStart centre's in Whangarei. Each day, the tamariki and whānau were so excited to come in and see if any new decorations had been set up or to spend the day helping to create something. Unfortunately, we did not win. However, we did come second, which we were very happy about and can not wait to improve more this coming year.

The tamariki also worked very hard at learning a few songs to perform for their whānau at our Christmas party. On the night, they did extremely well and showed a lot of confidence and enthusiasm with their singing and dancing. We had a great evening sharing kai, playing games, and taking professional whānau photos in the Santa Grotto. This is always a great way for us to deepen the connection between home and the centre.

Lastly, we ended our Christmas celebrations with a snow day! I think this was the children's favorite! They had fun throwing the snow in the air, trying to mold it, shovel it, and walk through it. We were even able to cover the snow with a tarpaulin over night which allowed the tamariki to see it take a different form the next day as it had transformed into a solid block of ice compared to the smaller ice chips it was at the beginning. It was an awesome sensory experience for our tamariki.
