Twas the night before the Powells Road Christmas party, and all through the kindy, not a Kaiako was stirring, not even Holly. The cookies, milk and carrots were set out with care; in hopes that Santa would soon appear. All our tamariki were nestled all snug in their beds; while visions of reindeer danced in their heads.

Kia ora whānau this December our tamariki have been working together in mahi tahi (collaboration) to decorate and beautify our whare here at Home of the Brave, in anticipation of Christmas and New Years! To celebrate Christmas, new years and the achievements of our tamariki in 2022, our wonderful Kaiako facilitated an extravagant week of Christmas festivity and finished off with a bang, a party! In the weeks leading up to our celebration we created lots of colourful ornaments and crafts and hung them around the classroom for all to see.

As whānau, tamariki, and kaiako gathered together we engaged in an evening of christmas festivities including lots of delicious, shared kai and best of all lots of aroha, korero and laughter. We were blessed by a beautiful performance of Christmas carols. Our tamariki had prepared, practising every day for weeks. Faces of parents lit up with joy around the room, as tamariki began to sing "We wish you a merry christmas". Bells jingled and hearts melted as our tamariki belted out "Jingle bells". After all that hard mahi, it was beautiful to see the hearts melting around the room, smiles of pride as we could see our whānau loved the results! Joy filled the room as everyone conversed with new people and formed new friendships. Suddenly a familiar cheerful tune floated in the air,a van whilst a tune as the sight of Mr Whippy came in the drive! Our tamariki enjoyed a delicious, sweet treat then were invited inside the truck to yell “Ice Cream!” that could be heard all down the street! With full tummies we waved goodbye, Mr Whippy had to go and Kaiako said “To all a goodnight.”
