In our infants and toddlers area, we value messy play as it provides our tamariki with the opportunity to experience a wide range of sensory experiences.  And, as you can tell from the photos, it is highly engaging and loads of fun!  One of the great things about messy play is that little additional equipment is necessary – children use their hands and fingers, feet and bodies to explore and experiment with.

Here’s a recipe you might like to try:

Making gloop - Slowly add one cup of cold water to two cups of cornflour in a bowl.  Stir until the water is absorbed by the cornflour.  Add colour if you like.  This is great just with fingers on a flat surface.
