As part of our school holiday programme at BestStart Kelvin Grove, we had a Messy Play week. For the final day before Term 1 started, we organised a Slime the Teacher day.

The whānau and tamariki had fun placing their votes for who they thought should be slimed. Joey and Ash were the lucky winners!

A huge shout out to all the parents who voted; the tamariki had a blast watching their teachers get slimed. The tamariki then enjoyed an afternoon of Messy Play fun as they explored it alongside their Kaiako.

Some Benefits of Messy Play | Korihori pōrehe

Children develop their hand-eye coordination, as they scoop, pour, mix and measure the mixtures. Children love to explore the properties of solutions – thicknesses of liquids, textures, how well the substance pours or moves are all things children observe and comment on. Teachers extend children’s vocabulary by adding words to what the children are noticing in their play – mixing, thick and thin liquids, texture words like smooth, lumpy, slimy, cold, warm, soft or sticky. Maths concepts are also introduced as children learn about pouring the mixture from one container to another – adults can talk to them about full, half full, some, more, little or big. This is a great way for children to learn about aspects measurement.
