This afternoon, we challenged ourselves with metal puzzles. Tamariki were very interested in the puzzles, and they went to sit down and have a try. The puzzles looked like easy to do ( you just find non-forced trick for solving it) but it turned out not.

Our tamariki were willing to have a go although it might be difficult. They were patient and persistent, manipulating the small wire puzzle in hands. It is amazing to see they were keeping on trying and hadn't give up so quickly. When someone successfully solved a puzzle, the other children were cheered for him/her and waited for a turn patiently.

The mental puzzles teaches tamariki the power of focusing on a goal and seeing it through to the end. They also show the value of approaching a problem from another angle, or “thinking outside the box". Meanwhile, they also had a great opportunity to develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
