We were lucky enough to have Amy and her team from the Howick Leisure Centre come in and run their Mini Movers Programme with the Tuatara Room children.

The children had a wonderful time developing their balance, hand eye co-ordination and spatial awareness. Teachers engaged in the exercises along the children to support them with not only their physical development but also their language as they talked to the children about what they were doing and what body parts they were moving. These learning experiences also helped the children to develop their confidence as they tried new things and built on their skills

While this experience is linked to the overall development for our children it is also linked to our Healthy Heart Award as well as Te Whariki. Being a part of a learning environment where children's health is being promoted and children develop an awareness of hauora and healthy activities. By engaging in physical experiences they gain confidence in and control of their bodies.
