Everyone loves baking, the smell of freshly baked goods throughout the room and the taste of soft, sweet cakes straight from the oven. Here at Beststart Judea the children are just as excited about the process of making the food and then sharing it with their friends, family, and the wider community. We talk about how sharing things and giving to those around us is kind and thoughtful and it makes others happy.

Recently the children in both Paua and Pounamu rooms have participated in many baking activities, some of this food was shared in the centre but some of it has also been given out to members of our community. We thanked our local plumbers and electrians after they supplied us with cable wheels and tubing, which we added to our outdoor environment.

These baking experiences allow the tamariki to work through turn taking and patience skills as they work in small groups with the direction of their kaiako. They are able to focus on mathematical concepts such as weighing ingredients and focus on mixing dry and wet ingredients together to create the various goodies.
