Month of music and movement

This month our children have been enjoying music and movement.

I have watched as the children used the instruments in many different ways, whether it be solo or in a group, and usually with smiles on their faces.

Music can be very beneficial…..

I love when you can watch a group of children sitting around with instruments just making up their own songs, and children are dancing around behind them with pois.

Music can build confidence and social skills in children. Children can be sitting in a group or by themselves, and you add some music or instruments and everyone gets involved. You can do some silly dancing, and the children will love it and join in. Even if they are standing in the corner watching or just doing their own thing, they will feel totally included.

Music encourages movement, rhythm and timing, which aids in gross and fine motor development. You can use action songs to get the body moving, add scarves, ribbons and pois to get children engaged; especially if children are a little shy, give them something to hold or shake, and they will soon be joining in.

Music can inspire creativity amongst children, whether it's with instruments and making up their own songs or playing music from different countries for the children to listen to and dance to.
This month we played music using different instruments such as the cello, saxophone, trumpet, violin and drums, and all the children really enjoyed hearing the different sounds they could make.
