Māori New Year

The start of the Māori New Year was heralded by the rise of the star cluster known in Māori as Matariki, bringing with it a joyful celebration of people, culture and language.

We took pride in guiding our tamariki in an exploration of Matariki with hands-on interactions and learning experiences such as art, paper weaving, stories, music, food, librarian visit to sing waiata and exploration to nurture their cultural understanding and respect for Māori heritage.

To emphasise the importance of coming together and sharing, the tamariki contributed vegetables to prepare a delicious friendship soup, which was shared and enjoyed by all.
