Mother’s Day in the nursery at Beststart Opihi,
Mother’s Day, here in the nursery at Beststart Opihi, is a chance to explore our expressive arts as we communicate to our Mums just how much they mean to us and how much we truly love them. We love to spoil our Mum’s and our Mum’s tell us just how much they look forward to this celebration to receive their bags of personalised treasures from their babies.
We explored a wide range of experiences from a photo shoot with choice of a teddy bear, dried flowers or hearts for props and the smiles just overflowed; we created two types of flowers one using paper plates and ice cream sticks for stalks and another using egg cartons with pipe cleaners for stalks. We decorated ice cream stick photo frames with sequins and glitter, painted book marks; created sun catcher hearts for ‘love you to pieces’ cards and drew on coffee cups, and hearts that when baked reduced in size to create key chains.
These experiences build on our creative skills both extending them and consolidating them all while we are fine-tuning our fine motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination as we experience art inside doors and out and extending our ideas of what we can create. All the tamariki had a ball in this continuous time of creation often painting our own bodies and become an art form ourselves. Our time of celebration was finished off with a coffee and selection of home baked scone, lolly cake, blueberry muffins and fruit salad for the Mum’s dropping off on the day along with their gifts.
