Moulding and shaping playdough

Moulding and shaping playdough

Our tamariki have recently been busy moulding and shaping playdough in the Centre.

Deep engagement was noticed on the playdough table as the tamariki excitedly explored the texture of the dough by kneading, poking, and rolling.

The Kaiako prepared different dough colours each week and placed a range of props with open-ended resources that further empowered the children to shape and mould the dough as per their ideas and thinking.

Play dough moulding is a sensory-rich activity that highly promotes fine motor development. Furthermore, it is a fun-filled activity that involves hand-eye coordination. It was amazing to see the children prepare noodles, roti, pizza and cake using the play dough.

Through these play opportunities, the children are also able to make connections between their home and early learning environment. Most importantly, they always have fun exploring play dough.
