Music and hui
Kia ora koutou, currently in Kakano we have noticed the tamariki thoroughly enjoy music and reading stories. Therefore this sparked our group learning focus of music and hui. Hui refers to the te reo maori phrase meaning 'meeting' so for our tamariki this looks like incorporating small mat/group times into our daily routine.
The other day Kylie brought in a new pukapuka for us to read together. It was called "Nee Naw, the little fire engine" and it included a CD so the tamariki could listen and sing along too! They loved looking at the pictures and listening to the song.
Following on from this, we then listened and read the story called "My daddy ate an apple" which the tamariki really enjoyed. The learning behind reading CD stories is that it supports tamariki in their cognitive and language development, as music can teach skills such as listening, repetition, rhythm and rhyme.
We will be continuing these hui times over the next few weeks and incorporating a range of resources to support their learning and development.
