Recently we have welcomed two new additions to our Pipiwai Kindy whānau, two very cheeky and energetic bunnies.

Our tamariki had a group hui to discuss possible names – some of the top picks were Blueberry, Boysenberry, Blackberry, Caramel, and Lemon. In the end, it was decided that they would be called Boysenberry and Caramel. Boysenberry is very cheeky, and a few times he has dug holes in the grass to burrow his way out of the hutch.

We have managed to catch the escapee and have now put mesh underneath the hutch to prevent this from happening. Caramel is a curious bunny who likes to sniff his surroundings and climb on top of our tamariki to take a closer look. We are very lucky to have a large outdoor space with real grass, so we can have pets who can thrive in the natural environment and eat the grass and daisies. Boysenberry and Caramel love coming out of their hutch for cuddles.

Our tamariki have been incredibly gentle with our new pets and like to pat them, cuddle them, and hand-feed them carrots. Our tamariki have been showing a lot of manaakitanga each day by helping with the daily care routines for our bunnies.

They help to carry some carrots outside each morning for them, refill their water bowl, and fill up their food bowl with pellets. 'Ahakoa he iti he pounamu' - Although it is small, it is a treasure
