New beginings & warm welcomes
This month in the Explorers Under 2s room has been a time of reconnection, transition, and resetting. As we welcomed back our tamariki after the holiday break, we also extended a warm welcome to some new faces, supporting them through their transition into our environment. Creating a strong sense of belonging has been at the heart of our efforts, ensuring that each tamaiti feels safe, secure, and valued in their learning space.
The beginning of January was focused on settling our tamariki back into their routines. We provided plenty of familiar experiences, as well as gentle guidance, to help our tamariki reconnect with their daily patterns. This routine helps foster a sense of security and predictability, which is crucial for tamariki under two years old.
We have been observing and responding to each child’s needs and interests, adapting our practices to best support their development. As kaiako, we’ve used a range of strategies to ease the transition for both tamariki and whānau. Through intentional, responsive interactions, we’ve encouraged social play, communication, and independence. Storytelling, singing, and engaging in sensory activities have been key in supporting language development and emotional regulation.
These strategies are deeply tied to our localised curriculum, which highlights the importance of nurturing strong relationships with parents and whānau. By working in partnership with families, we ensure that transitions are as smooth and supportive as possible for both children and their parents and whānau.
Our learning priorities this month have focused on creating a nurturing environment where tamariki feel seen, heard, and valued. As we move through this period of settling in, we remain committed to supporting each child’s individual growth and fostering a strong sense of community within our space.
